“Taste” is an introspective look into the impermanence of relationships and the daily struggle in our lives. Centered on Henry Soja, a New York-based screenwriter with an addiction to the ladies, “Taste” is a story about a man who strives daily for love and a relationship that he dreams about, yet his cocaine addiction and sexual urges lead to a string of one night stands that kill budding relationships before they can start. One of the ladies catches his eye, Cindi. She is the ethereal embodiment of what Henry has been looking for. Their relationship is idyllic until one day it crashes to a terrible screeching halt that will change both of their lives forever.

Henry’s grounding force is his friend Nigel. Nigel, an unsuccessful director who is in a relationship with a stand-in for a star of a popular sitcom, is the only person who is consistently on Henry’s side. His attempts to help Henry get his life on track are often thwarted by Henry’s self destructive sex and drug addictions. Nigel’s career takes him to Los Angeles far away from Henry who feels betrayed and left behind. Nigel continues his collaboration with Henry regarding a children’s film about flying cats. With Cindi and Nigel both gone Henry reaches his lowest point and fulfills his urges for sex and drugs like never before. His 24 hour party life is shattered when he gets a call that Nigel has been fatally stabbed in a robbery. His only true friend has now faded into the darkness of the blur of a party that has been his life. Like a college student vowing to “never drink again” Henry hopelessly promises to rekindle his relationship with Cindi and reform his ways in order to get a taste of what he is looking for. We end on the promise of things to come but the insecurity of a failed past.

“Taste” will be shot in and around New York with a few master shot and pick-up exteriors being shot in Los Angeles. The tone will be similar to “Magnolia” or “Fight Club” in that it deals with hard issues in a sobering way, yet there are still some moments for humor. The humor will come mostly from Henry and Nigel’s interchanges and observation humor from Henry. Henry Soja is the anti-hero in this dark coming of age story. We don’t approve of what Henry is doing and we want him to reform his ways but his wit and his honesty endears him to us. The look of the film is established early on. Since Henry’s life is a 24 hour party, people enter and exit his life much like those at a rave. They enter out of darkness and they exit into the darkness; never to be seen again.
